Cops take action against errant rickshaw drivers

PUNE: Taking strict action against autorickshaw drivers flouting traffic rules, the Hadapsar traffic police conducted a drive on Thursday and seized 123 autorickshaws after the drivers were found to be violating several rules of traffic and Motor Vehicles Act.

The drive was conducted in the areas of Magarpatta junction, Mantri Market, Gadital and others.

Around 100 autorickshaws were released after the drivers paid the fine amount.

The drive was undertaken by Police Inspector Shabbir Sayyed, Traffic In-charge Hadapsar along with his team of 10 to 12 officials.

Sayyed said, "We were constantly getting complaints from people regarding these auto drivers and thus we decided to conduct a drive across the areas and verify their documents and also check if they were following other norms of Motor Vehicles Act."

He added, "During the drive, we seized 123 autos that were violating the rules and out of which more than 100 rickshaws were released after payment of fine."

The drive was undertaken against the autorickshaw drivers for violating rules like not wearing uniforms, batches or not carrying the relevent permits. There were some drivers who had parked their vehicle in an inappropriate manner causing inconvenience to the commuters.
