The indigenously developed semi-high speed train, Train 18, has officially become the first train in India. During trial, Train 18 cruise at a sustained speed of 180 km per hour making it the fastest train in India. Railway minister Piyush Goyal announced through a tweet. Manufactured at a cost of approximately Rs 100 crore, Train 18 is scheduled to ply between Delhi and Varanasi via Allahabad. Train 18 has 16 coaches and can accommodate 1,128 passengers. Train 18 boasted of features such as automatic doors with sliding footsteps, world-class facilities including infotainment, bio-vacuum toilets, and GPS-based information system, among others.
