RAJKOT: With the New Year eve nearing, there is a spike in bootlegging cases in Rajkot. On Tuesday night, a total of 5,772 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), worth Rs 17.31 lakh, were seized from a truck in Bhagwatipara locality of Rajkot.

The Rajkot crime branch officials made the seizure on the basis of a tip-off that a truck carrying liquor was parked in a farm behind Modern School in Bhagwatipara.

“We had received tip-off that a Bhagwatipara-based bootlegger, identified as Nasir Ibrahim Mod, had sought the truck load of IMFL bottles’ supply and that the bootleggers were supposed to assemble at the spot to divide their share of IMFL bottles,” said an official from Rajkot crime branch.

However, before the raid, all the bootleggers including Mod fled. “The liquor bottles were hidden among sacks carrying wood powder. Mod had been booked earlier for bootlegging. We are probing as to who was supposed to take the delivery of the liquor. We have launched a manhunt for him,” added the official.
