Work in public sector banks (PSBs) was affected in Puducherry and the neighbouring Cuddalore and Villupuram districts on Wednesday as employees owing allegiance to the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) struck work protesting against the proposed merger of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with the Bank of Baroda.
The employees belonging to various banks staged a demonstration in front of the UCO Bank here raising slogans against the merger. Among others, the unions are demanding an increase of 25%, increment for all bank employees and rejection of the proposal to introduce variable pay. However, private sector banks continued to function as usual.
