GURUGRAM: A head constable with Gurugram police was forced into a car from the Rajiv Nagar area on Wednesday and thrashed by a groupd of six people before the accused realised that he was a cop and dumped him near the Sector 12 crossing.

It all started when head constable Madan, who is posted at Police Lines as an escort guard, was taking a round in his colony, where he and his family reside in a rented house, and allegedly confronted some children who were playing on the road. A person on a two-wheeler stopped where Madan was scolding the kids and picked up an argument with him. This person also called up his friends to teach Madan a lesson.

Within a few minutes, five-six people arrived in the scene in a white Tata Safari (HR26 BR 2727) and forced Madan inside the car. They then accelerated the car and started thrashing Madan inside the moving vehicle. However, they soon realised that the person they had picked up was actually a police officer. The accused realised that they were likely to be arrested for their action and dumped Madan as well as the vehicle near the Sector 12 crossing before fleeing the scene.

The police department got into action mode after information about the alleged kidnapping of a head constable reached its door.

The entire police force was put on alert and check posts were installed across the city to rescue the cop and nab the criminals. ACP (crime) Shamsher Singh directed all crime units to give a hand and the missing cop was found within 45 minutes.

Police have also recovered the Tata Safari which has a Gurugram registration number and sought details from the regional transport office. Meanwhile, the search for the accused is on. On the complaint of Madan’s wife, police have registered a case against the unknown attackers.

According to police sources, the accused have been identified and are likely to be detained soon but no one had been nabbed till the time of filing this report. After initial investigation, police have confirmed the case to be an escalation of a private dispute between the head constable and his neighbours.

ACP (city) Rajiv Yadav confirmed that head constable Madan was posted at Police Lines but had not been coming to work for the past three days. “We received information on Wednesday afternoon that a head constable had been picked in a vehicle by unknown persons. We immediately formed police teams who started a search operation. The head constable was eventually found near Sector 12 and the case has turned out to be a dispute between neighbours,” he added.
