SDMC conducts special sanitation drive, issues 343 chit challans

A special drive was conducted Thursday in south Delhi by the SDMC which imposed a total of 343 chit challans for violation of norms, officials said.

The drive was organised in all the four zones of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) -- West, Central, Najafgarh and South.

The employees collected garbage from 57 markets in the West Zone, 32 in the Central Zone, 28 in the Najafgarh Zone and 50 in the South Zone.

"Action against littering was taken today simultaneously in 167 markets resulting in slapping of a total of 343 chit challans. The maximum 187 challans have been issued in the South Zone, whereas the minimum of 33 in the Najafgarh Zone," an at the SDMC said.

As many as 74 challans were issued in the Central Zone and another 49 in the West Zone.

Under such chit challans, a violator is supposed to be present in the court of and liable to pay in cash, fine determined by the court.

SDMC has asked inspectors and sanitation inspectors at zonal levels to sincerely work under the 'Special Sanitation Drive'.

Goel has appealed to the public to render their constructive contribution in the drive focusing special themes.

He said this will "go a long way in earning a proud place in the ranking in top 10" in Swachh Bharat reckoning.

The campaign was conducted at Nehru Place, Amar Colony, Jangpura, Dwarka and Dwarka Market, among other places.
