Couple in love commit suicide

Representative imageRAJKOT: A young couple allegedly allegedly committed suicide in Kumbhardi village of Bhachau taluka in Kutch district on Wednesday evening by hanging with a tree. The deceased were identified as Ranjan Nayka (16) and Mahesh Nayka (19). Both were tribals hailing from Chhota Udepur district.
Preliminary investigation suggested they were in love and probably feared that their families wouldn’t agree to their marriage. Families of the victims had come to Kutch in search of agriculture labour work. They knew each other, but both families said they were not aware if the boy and girl had an affair. S J Bhatia, PSI, Bhachau, said “We suspect they committed suicide due to fear of their families. It is a common practice among tribals that members of the same community are not allowed to marry.”
