BEIJING—A Chinese court is scheduled to hear a Canadian citizen’s appeal against drug-smuggling charges, state media reported, in a case likely to compound the acrimony between China and Canada.

News of the Saturday hearing emerged in Chinese media on Wednesday and occurred as Beijing and Ottawa are sparring over Canada’s arrest of a well-connected Chinese executive this month and China’s subsequent detention of three Canadian nationals—separate to the drug-smuggling case.
