RAJKOT: The police found four cartridges of flare gun from near Helipad ground in Shihor town of Bhavnagar on Wednesday.

Further investigation revealed that the cartridges were of a flare gun used by sailors to alert or give distress signal in mid-sea.

According to police, they received a message at 9.30am about explosives lying behind Ekta Society. Few children had spotted the explosives while playing on the ground.

The police found these cartridges wrapped in thick paper. The aluminum casing had something written in Russian language, said police.

Investigating officer I B Zala said, “We have called the forensic experts to verify the cartridges. There are people who steal scrap from ships that come to Alang for breaking. The thieves might have mistook the cartridges as scrap. But on coming to know that these were explosives, they might have thrown it.”
