GURUGRAM: The NHAI expects to open the U-turn, unidirectional flyover at IFFCO Chowk for commuters coming from the Jaipur side on January 1.
All bottlenecks which were delaying the project, including the GAIL gas station and a high-tension tower, have been removed.
The 917-metre flyover has been built at a cost of Rs 32.75 crore. A senior NHAI official said, “We are hopeful that this flyover will open from New Year.” The NHAI contractor has also built a service road along the flyover after the removal of the GAIL gas station and installed streetlights on it.
Saurabh Singhal, team leader and traffic transportation expert with NHAI consultant Bloom Companies said, “The GAIL station was removed a few days ago, clearing the way for a service road which we have completed.”
In January 2017, GAIL constructed a new station at Cyber Hub, next to the Deloite building. “Our new station is ready for operations,” said a senior GAIL official.
The construction work on the IFFCO Chowk project started on December 1, 2016, and the completion date for the project was March 31, 2019, according to the contract.
While one of the U-turn, unidirectional flyovers for traffic from Delhi to Gurugram opened in November 2017, the other one had been held up.
A year ago, NHAI had submitted a proposal for removal of the high-tension tower and the GAIL station coming in the way of the flyover to the Haryana government.
“At this point of time, the civil work, including construction of the reinforced earthwall and crash barriers, has been completed. The flyover is near completion,” added Singhal.
On December 31, NHAI will conduct an inspection of the entire flyover before its opening. “All road signs have been put up and the rest will be installed by this weekend,” said Singhal.
Besides this flyover, the straight flyover at IFFCO Chowk for Jaipur-bound traffic is still stuck due to a 220kV high-tension tower coming in its alignment. The straight flyover is, however, likely to open by February, according to NHAI officials.
An underpass on MG Road, which is also part of the IFFCO Chowk project, has been stuck due to a petrol pump coming in its way. This month, NHAI gave a two-month ultimatum to the Haryana government to clear the land of the petrol pump or else it will pull out of the project.
