Snatcher out on bail held again

CHANDIGARGH: The crime branch team of the UT police has arrested a snatcher and claimed to have solved four snatching cases reported this month.
The accused, identified as Bhim, 35, a resident of Sector 38, Chandigarh, was released on bail from the Burail jail on December 11. He committed four snatchings in different parts of the city after being released from the jail. The accused would be produced before the court on Thursday for further interrogation.
On secret information, the crime branch team arrested the accused from Sector 38 on Wednesday. Sources said the accused used to target people having Activa scooter and snatched their Activa. The police have also recovered an Activa scooter, which was used in committing the crime.
Bhim was earlier arrested in snatching cases and was lodged at the Burail jail for the last several months.
The accused targeted two women at Sectors 46 and 37 on December 22. With the help of CCTV footages, the team arrested him from Sector 38. In the past 15 days, around six cases of snatchings were reported from various parts of the city.
Earlier this month, purses and mobile phones were snatched in two different incidents over the past 24 hours. Sunita, a resident of Colony No 4 said she was on her way to meet relatives at Mauli Jagran with her husband and sister in-law when a man came up from behind and snatched her purse, which contained Rs 5,000 and a mobile phone.
