CHIKKAMAGALURU: SG Satish, 35, a resident of Shivani village of Tarikere taluk, who had murdered his wife and walked with her severed head in a bag to the police station attempted suicide inside the city prison on Monday.
Satish tried to commit suicide by injuring his private parts in the early hours of Monday, said police. He went to the bathroom after all the inmates had slept and try to hurt himself. Hearing him crying in pain, other inmates rushed to his rescue. The staff on duty rushed him to the district hospital from where he was taken to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), 60 km from here.

He has been brought to Nimhans hospital, Bengaluru, as he has slipped into depression.

Speaking to The Times of India, SP Harish Pandey informed that Satish was rushed to the hospital immediately after the incident. “Physically he is stable but mentally he is very disturbed. So prison department authorities decided to admit him to Nimhans where he will be treated. We provided escort to the prison authorities to admit him at Nimhans,” he said.

Love gone sour

On September 10, Satish murdered his wife Roopa S, 25, as he suspected that she was having an affair with a youth in their village. He travelled over 20 km on his bike, from his village till Ajjampura police station, with the severed head of his wife before surrendering to the police.

Relatives say that Satish repents for his crime. He keeps crying and wants to see his two children. He defied society and his family to marry his lover, villagers stated. The kids are with the grandparents.

The couple had married in 2012. At the time of marriage, villagers opposed their union because they were of different castes. Police helped them get married. The couple was socially boycotted. A Rs 1,000 fine was imposed on all those who allowed the couple to enter their homes.
