Vadodara: Over 1,000 cops will keep a close eye on the city streets on New Year Eve this year. The police has deployed tight security in and around the city to maintain law and order and keep trouble mongers at bay. City police commissioner, Anupam Singh Gahlaut said that they will also crack down on those consuming liquor in the city.
“We have given 200 breath analysers to the policemen who will be deployed at 40 different points in the city. The cops will intercept those found in suspicious state and check if they are in inebriated condition,” Gahlaut said. He added that 300 cops will be moving around in civilian dress in the city and also at the party venues.
“If there is any misbehaviour by any reveller at party venues or on the road, we will act strictly against him or her. The police aims to ensure that people enjoy the New Year Eve safely,” Gahlaut added. From December 25, 100 cops will conduct vehicle checking at eight points and 11 check-posts. “Those involved in the illegal business of bootlegging too are being monitored along with history-sheeters,” the police said.
Many of the new year parties are held in the farmhouses or party plots on the outskirts of the city. While thousands of Barodians also throng Fatehgunj, Alkapuri and Old Padra Road to celebrate the occasion with their friends and family every year.
