NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old commission agent was shot during a suspected robbery at Lawrence Road underpass while he was heading towards Keshavpuram in northwest Delhi. The man was found lying in a pool of blood by passersby who informed the PCR. Police rushed him to Apollo Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The man was identified as Vinod Garg (50) from the ID card found in his pocket. He used to work as a cash collection agent for factories in the area. DCP (northwest) Aslam Khan said they received two PCR calls around 2.45pm about a person, who was riding a scooter, being shot in the underpass.
A probe has revealed that the assailants fled with a bag in which Garg was carrying Rs 2,000. Police suspect that the killers may have fled towards Rohini. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to identify them.
Garg had collected the money from two places and was heading to pay it to some people. Police have informed his family members about the incident. He had shifted to an apartment in Rohini Sector 6 two years ago after he started working as a commission agent. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of someone known to Garg having passed on the information about the cash to the killers. They are questioning the owners of the factories and his colleagues.
Meanwhile, another robbery was reported in the same area in which bikers waylaid a north Delhi-based businessman and fled with Rs 2 lakh.
