PATNA: Police on Tuesday night recovered the bullet-ridden body of a Patna-based transporter Dinanath Rai (39), near circuit house under Sadar police station area in Vaishali district.
Vaishali SP Manajeet Singh Dhillon said, “Rai’s body had several bullet injuries. He had left for his office at Transport Nagar in Patna from his residence at Sondho village under Garaul police station area in Vaishali at around 6pm. Rai’s wife rang him at around 7pm to which he replied that he had crossed Gandhi Setu and would reach his office in the next few minutes.”
“However, after 15-20 minutes, the transporter’s wife received a call on her cellphone from an unknown caller informing that Rai had met with an accident at Ramashish Chowk. His wife immediately rushed to the spot but she did not get any clue. Later, at around 9 pm, Rai’s body was found near the circuit house after some locals informed the police. His bike was also found near an electric pole on the spot,” the SP said.
Dhillon said it seems Rai was murdered somewhere else after which his body was dumped on the spot. Police are trying to track the caller who had informed Rai’s wife about his accident.
The SP said police are also trying to trace Rai’s brother in-law Munna Singh, who had recently come out on bail in a murder case.
In another incident, an egg trader Amit Bhagat was shot at by two criminals in front of his residence at Bus Stand road under Forbesganj police station area in Araria district around midnight on Tuesday.
SHO PK Praveen said, “The locals nabbed one Mohammad Zahur (30) with a country- made semi-automatic pistol when he was trying to flee after shooting Bhagat. He was thrashed and handed over to police. Zahur later told police that he along with his associate had some financial dispute with Bhagat.
He said the egg trader was rushed to a private hospital in Purnia were he is undergoing treatment.
Incidentally, this is the fourth murder of a trader in the state during the last one week. Gunjan Khemka, an industrialist, was shot dead on December 20 in Hajipur in Vaishali district, leading to panic among the community in the area. Khemka, son of Patna's well known businessman Gopal Khemka, was targeted on his way to his factory in Hajipur, about 30 km from here.
A road construction firm owner, AP Shahi was shot dead in broad daylight in Darbhanga the very next day and a property dealer was killed in Begusarai district within 12 hours after that. All the cases remain unsolved.
