Accused of hiding ganja in man’s vehicle

A police constable has been suspended for allegedly hiding ganja in a physically challenged man’s vehicle to foist a case on him.

On Monday, the Sankar Nagar police arrested a mechanic for planting the ganja in the vehicle. They are still looking for the police constable.

The police said Sathish, 30, a resident of Anakaputhur, and his friend Bhuminathan were detained for drunken driving two days ago and Sathish’s vehicle was taken to the police station. When Mr. Sathish went to retrieve his vehicle the next day, constable Ramadurai told him that a packet containing 150g ganja was recovered from it and that he would be arrested.

The constable reported the alleged seizure to his superior officers about. During interrogation, Mr. Sathish claimed that he was innocent. After analysing CCTV footage, Inspector John Vincent found that the packet had been concealed by Arumugam, a mechanic at the station. Interrogation revealed that Ramadurai was the mastermind.

The police are analysing the constable’s call records to find out the source of ganja and to find out if he was involved in similar offences.
