While Ahmedabad, Goa, Kochi, Jaipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam and Coimbatore
were the top domestic leisure destinations this year, on the international front,
Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore and Colombo remained favorites.

Travel companies stated that this summer was undoubtedly dominated by foreign
travel and 2018 at the same time witnessed heightened enthusiasm for monsoon
travel. “This summer international travel bookings reflected a whopping 56% YoY
(year over year) increase. The year also saw a heightened enthusiasm for
monsoon travel. Overall the international travel grew by 36% YoY during the
monsoon season. Sydney and Melbourne witnessed acute spike in travel bookings
and registered a record YoY growth of over 100% this monsoon,” said Balu
Ramachandran, Head – Air and Distribution at Cleartrip, emphasizing that easy on
budget short haul destinations were equally popular. The weak rupee value for
many months in the year additionally drove short haul bookings.
