KOLKATA: A 35-year-old transporter residing at the Khilat Babu Lane in Tala, north Kolkata, was found murdered around 6.50am on Tuesday in the Paikpara area. The body of the victim, Sk Abdul Abbas, was found inside a drain close to the Chhayi Park on the Mitra Gopal Chatterjee Lane. He was declared brought dead at RG Kar Hospital.
Cops have found blood stains 30m away from the drain where he was dumped. Sources added the body was dragged to the drain and his jacket was used to cover his face. The Tala police, along with the homicide section of detective department, have started a probe. At least three persons, all acquaintances of the victim, have been detained for questioning. “He was hit repeatedly with brick slabs by the accused. We suspect that granite slabs, the ones used in tram tracks, might have been used to commit the crime,” said an investigating officer.
Police said, the victim was at home on Monday evening, when his friends asked him to join a Christmas party. Later, he reportedly joined them and started gambling and by midnight, he won around Rs 30,000.
“We have leads on some who might be involved. One person, Kalam, is under our radar,” said an officer.
