Members of the Toda tribe, led by Todar Samuthaya Munnetra Sangam, petitioned the district police and the District Collector, demanding action against a policeman who allegedly assaulted them during a temple procession in Udhagamandalam town on Sunday.

In their petition, members of the tribe alleged that the police official attached to the Ooty town police accused them of blocking traffic.

They also alleged that the police official used derogatory language against the tribal community.

Northey Kuttan, a member of the Toda community and president of the Pagalkodu Mund Eco Development Committee that manages the Ninth Mile Shooting Medu, said that as the District SP, D. Shanmuga Priya was on leave, they had met the ADSP of the Nilgiris district police and also District Collector Innocent Divya urging action against the police official.
