Bizman’s son held for assaulting Iranian lady

PUNE: A 48-year-old man, who is a son of a famous industrialist, has been arrested by Koregaon Park police station for allegedly assaulting a 33-year-old Iranian woman, who was also held captive for over a month.

The police have identified the arrested as Dhanraj Morarji alias Baba, son of industrialist Arvind Morarji. On Monday, a magistrate court remanded him to police custody for two days.

The police said that the woman had managed to alert a fellow countryman who got her rescued on Sunday midnight from MIT Olympus Society in Lane E of North Main Road.

According to the police, the woman came to India in May to pursue a course in computer technology. She met Morarji through a common friend in November and they started living together. However soon after, he started abusing and assaulting her on petty issues. He also took away her documents including passport, mobile phone and ATM cards. After assaulting her at night, he would apologise in the morning. When he used to go out, he would tie a dog outside her bedroom.
