MOTIHARI: Governor Lalji Tandon on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of an ‘Animal Breeding Centre Of Excellence’ with the cooperation of Brazil government at Piprakothi on Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) campus, where artificial insemination will be done to enhance milk productivity. Calling it a milestone achievement, Tandon urged the farmers to visit this breeding centre to increase milk productivity of their cows.
Addressing a large gathering of farmers, the governor said, “Integrated farming and preservation of cows of Indian breeds can play a pivotal role in the development of nation and enhancing farmers’ income. Brazil has emerged as one of the largest milk producers in the world by rearing ‘Gir' cows, a breed exported from Gujarat. In fact, Gir cow has the distinction of changing the fortunes of Brazil’s entire dairy industry. A good milking Gir cow gives 30 to 40 litre milk per day, ” said Tandon at the ceremony.
Scientist from Brazil, DD Jaisis Bobolin, who was present on the occasion said following a memorandum of understanding inked between the two nations, they are working to enhance milk productivity in India. Union minister Radha Mohan Singh said, “Vajpayeeji had a dream to connect agriculture with technology and the very legacy is being carried by PM Nanendra Modi.” He reiterated India’s tremendous progress in the agriculture sector and commitments to double farmers’ incomes by 2022 through a series of agriculture reform like soil health cards, organic farming, horticulture, fishries, dairies and crop insurance.
The governor also unveiled thelife-size statue of former PM late Atal Bihari Vajpayee installed on the premises of KVK. This was the first statue of the ex-PM in East Champaran district, which was dedicated to the nation on his 94th birth anniversary
