Dharmasthala: Steering clear of vices is important for health, peace in family, social honour and economic progress of an individual, said D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala. “The Janajagruthi Vedike is inspiring and guiding people to lead a vice-free life. Lots of money and resources is lost to personal vices,” he said, adding peace and contentment that matter most to an individual, come from staying away from vices.
Addressing people who have completed 100-days free from substance abuse of all kinds and alcohol abuse in particular, here on Tuesday, Heggade said when individuals change their behaviour vis-à-vis vices, they start out on the path to economic progress, which in turn brings about social respect for them. “Therefore, it is important for all to stay away from vices and lead a healthy life, which is useful to the society,” he added.
Heggade conferred awards on individuals who toiled to ensure that alcoholics quit drinking, on the occasion. The awardees are Harish of K R Pete who was conferred the title ‘Jagruthi Anna’ for getting more than 50 people kick the bottle and ‘Jagruthi Mitra’ award to Kushalappa of Bantwal and Swami of Koppal, who ensured that more than 25 alcoholics gave up drinking. The awards are in recognition of their work, he said.
Janajagruthi Vedike conducts these deaddiction camps in villages by pooling resources from locals, and has conducted 1,303 such camps so far. Vouching for the effectiveness of the camp, Maralasiddaiah from Tumakuru said getting help to quit alcohol has not only restored a semblance of order in his life, but also helped him repay a loan of Rs 25,000. “I did not know the rate of groceries five months ago due to my addiction,” he said.
