Association takes exception to posting of temporary workers

The KSRTC Reserve Conductor Rank Holders Association has urged the government to appoint conductors from the existing rank list instead of hiring temporary workers through employment exchange.

Association president A.M. Lalu and secretary C.R. Sajith told reporters here on Monday that the organisation would fight any move by the government to sabotage the rank list which is eight years old. The list came into effect in May 2013, and advice memo was sent to 9,300 candidates first. But only 5,000 were appointed.

Mr. Lalu alleged that the government had not disclosed the number of vacancies then to protect empanelled workers. However, only less than 2,500 candidates reported for work.

Court order

After two years, around 4,000 more candidates were given advice memo based on a court order, of whom only

1,400 reported for work. In effect, the KSRTC employed only around 4,000 out of the 9,300 candidates.

Meanwhile, the government claimed that all those who had found place in the rank list had been employed, which the association termed as false. It said more than 35,000 candidates had been included in the list.

“The government is cheating job aspirants who are well past their age to appear for PSC tests. This is their last chance,” Mr. Lalu said.

The government’s attempt to cancel the rank list has further irked the association.

“We demand that further postings be made based on the rank list. Or else, we are bound to take up protest measures or move the court,” Mr. Lalu added.
