Rowdy hacked to death over old rivalry in Shivamogga

SHIVAMOGGA: A rowdy sheeter was hacked to death on the outskirts of Shivamogga city on Sunday night.
Balu alias Bunk Balu was killed with lethal weapons. Police suspect old rivalry to be the reason behind the murder.
According to police, Balu, believed to be a close aide of Korangu Krishna, was living in Bengaluru along with his mother and wife and was involved in many crimes in Shivamogga, his native place. On Sunday, following an invitation from some of his old friends, he went to watch a ram fight at Harige village on Shivamogga-Bhadravathi highway. He was felicitated during the event after which he joined his friends and partied till midnight.
When he left the place, an armed gang attacked him with machetes. He died on the spot, the police stated.
Superintendent of police Abinav Khare told reporters that Balu was an accused in several robbery, extortion and murder cases. “We were monitoring his movements. We suspect that he was killed by a rival gang.”
Three months ago another rowdy Market Giri was brutally murdered in Shivamogga. Police suspect a link between the two murders.
Tunganagara and Kumsi police station sub-inspectors were injured while catching a murder accused on Monday evening at Tyajyavalli.
2 sub-inspectors injured
After the murder of Bunk Balu, SP Abinav Khare set-up a special team to probe the incident. Tunganngara PSI Annayya and Kumsi police station PSI Jagadish raided the hideouts of the accused in Tyajyavalli.
The accused retaliated with lethal weapons. Two of the injured were admitted to McGaan Hospital and later shifted to NH Hospital in Shivamogga. Accused Anil alias Ambu was taken into custody.
