LUCKNOW: As controversy rages over the importance of humans versus cows and slain Bulandshahar cop’s son raising embarrassing questions, UP cabinet on Monday gave its nod to ‘extra-ordinary’ pension for families of injured policemen who sink into coma while on duty. The development comes amid the ruling BJP finding itself at the receiving end over attacks on police, especially after Bulandshahr incident.
Government spokesperson Siddharthnath Singh said that under ‘extra-ordinary’ pension, the family of the injured cop will get the full salary. The family will continue to receive the extra-ordinary pension till the retirement age of the cop even if he/she dies early.
First-time provision for comatose government staff
The district level medical authority will have to provide a certificate of the police personnel in ‘coma’. This is the first time that such a provision has been made for any state government employee.
CM Yogi Adityanath had termed Bulandshahr incident, in which two persons including a cop were killed, a ‘political conspiracy’. But slain cop Subodh Kumar Singh’s son Abhishek had questioned the state government’s priority to probe into cow slaughter in Bulandshahr over his father’s murder.
After the incident, the family of the slain cop had met the CM who had announced a compensation of Rs 40 lakh for his wife, Rs 10 lakh for his parents and a government job for one member of the family member.
