Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is creating hype over construction of the first gate for the Polavaram project, while hiding the fact that only foundation of the project is completed.
Addressing a public meeting at Meliyaputti of Pathapatnam Assembly constituency, the YSRCP president said that at least two-month time was required for construction of each gate out of the total of 48 gates and it might take many years for actual completion of the project.
Mr. Reddy also pointed out delay in construction of capital region Amaravati. “One can find only temporary structures and that too constructed with substandard material.
The Chief Minister is misleading the people with graphics and ‘Bahubali’ sets. Unfortunately, a section of media is hiding all the facts and projecting Mr. Naidu as a saviour of AP,” he added.
Mr. Reddy alleged that the Vamsadhara water project was delayed due to large-scale corruption. He charged Rajya Sabha member C.M. Ramesh’s company with failure to complete the project even after enhancement of the cost from ₹55 crore to ₹476 crore.
“The State government failed to construct the Neradi barrage even after getting nod from the Supreme Court. The works of the Vamsadhara phase-2 are going at a snail’s pace,” Mr. Reddy pointed out.
Compensation
The Leader of the Opposition promised to do justice to the farmers who lost their lands for the construction of Hiramandalam reservoir and other structures which were part of the Vamsadhara phase-2. “We will pay compensation as per the new law and withdraw cases against farmers who agitated seeking justice,” said Mr. Reddy.
He called upon the people to teach a lesson to Pathapatnam MLA Kalamata Venkataramana who had joined the TDP after winning on the YSRCP ticket in 2014 elections.
“The local MLA involved in large-scale corruption. Illegal sand mining is done with his support,” Mr. Reddy added.
