PUNE: A survey data has revealed that over 94 per cent of heads from different institutes have stated that Mathematics is important for wider career options in the age of automation and the subject develops the critical thinking that helps in solving day to day problems.

The survey was conducted among 600 respondents consisting of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), IITians and school principals. It was conducted over the last two months across metro cities in the country by Cuemath, on the occasion of National Mathematics Day.

The objective was to identify trends around the perception and importance of Mathematics amongst parents, corporates, school principals and recent IITians.

The data primarily reflects that over 94 per cent of the respondents have agreed that Mathematics is the key to career progression in a world of automation.

Commenting on the findings, Manan Khurma, CEO of Cuemath said, “In a world which is dynamically changing with each passing day, the ability to adapt quickly to change is an essential skill to possess. Our education system needs to prepare the present-day youths to conquer the reality of disruptions in jobs in this AI-economy, with Maths being unarguably one core skill that forms the strongest foundation.”

He further added, “Our understanding of the world around is conditioned by numbers, with its presence seen in each and every aspect of daily life, making mathematics an important element of one’s education. We need to inculcate strong logical reasoning and analytical thinking at early stages of learning, to get ahead in a world of automation”.

"Every organisation or a professional is increasingly being asked to be 'data-driven'. This is accomplished through the application of data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence in a big way to solve complex problems. These capabilities are heavily based on mathematical concepts such as statistics, regression and problem-solving,” said Anand Narayanan, Chief Product Officer of Simplilearn.
