Hyderabad: Deceased's family allege medical negligence, vandalise corporate hospital

A corporate hospital in Hyderabad was vandalised and the security staff and a police constable were allegedly beaten up by the kin of a 45-year old woman after her death, police said Tuesday.

Videos of the incident which happened Monday night went viral on social media wherein some people were seen damaging the hospital property.

According to a report in The NewsMinute, the incident took place at the Global Hospital in Hyderabad’s Lakdi ka Pul Area. The deceased has been identified as Samina Begum who was under going treatment for lung disease.

Her son alleged that treatment wasn’t being done properly and accused the hospital of medical negligence. He was quoted saying: “They have not done treatment properly and they have been asking money daily. The staff is asking for cash separately to go check on my mother. They are demanding from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. Duty doctors are also demanding money separately and saying that they will ensure she is treated properly. It is complete medical negligence.”

She was admitted on Dec 18 with a lung problem and was treated for swine flu DCP P Viswa Prasad said. He said she died of cardiac arrest at around 8:45 PM on Monday.

The woman was admitted on December 18 with a lung problem and treated for swine flu also, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) P Viswa Prasad said.

However, the patient did not respond to the treatment and died of a cardiac arrest at around 8.45 p.m Monday, he added.

Following the death, her sons and some of her relatives allegedly started vandalised the hospital property, the official said.

Complaint and counter-complaint were filed by woman's sons and the hospital management.
