A man has been charged with murder after a 26-year-old man's body was found inside a blood-smeared house in Melbourne.

The body was found by police about 11.20pm on Sunday in the southwestern suburb of Altona, where blood was visibly splattered on the front door.

A 48-year-old man has been charged with one count of murder and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
