Police send letter to company seeking details to probe abetment to suicide case

The wife of the deceased assistant vice-president of a professional services firm, who was found hanging after being accused of sexual harassment by two female colleagues, has demanded a copy of the complaint from the company being the legal heir after his death.

The police have sent a 20-point letter to the company seeking all the major details in the matter, including the personal details of all his contemporaries in order to investigate the abetment of suicide.

The family and friends of the deceased and members of various organisations, which fight for equal rights for men, held a candle march outside his office in Noida on Monday evening demanding justice for the deceased. People raised slogans against the company management for hiding the details of the complaints and the two female complainants.

A family friend of the deceased said that as per the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, the deceased’s wife is the respondent of the complaint that was filed against him.

“We have submitted a letter seeking a copy of the complaint that was filed against him along with the minutes of the proceedings signed and filed till date,” he said.

Meanwhile, police sources said that they have sought the details for which they have sent a 20-point questionnaire seeking details of the two women who filed the complaint, details of those who were in the Internal Complaints Committee that took the decision of his suspension.

“Apart from this, we have sought the details of all those colleagues of the deceased who had joined the company with him in 2007 in order to investigate the angle of ‘office politics’ and CCTV footage from the office on December 18 when Swaroop was suspended besides other footage that can prove the charges of the complainants, if any,” said a police officer on the basis of anonymity.

Muneesh Chauhan, Station House Officer, Surajpur, said, “The arrests cannot be made until we get the substantial proofs to support the allegations raised by the family of the deceased against the company”.
