LUDHIANA: The much-hyped online building plan approval system launched by local bodies minister Navjot Sidhu in August with much fanfare is yet to catch up in the city. Four months since its launch, the civic body has received only 11 applications online. On the other hand, it has received around 1,889 building plans manually this year.
The civic officials are now encouraging residents to use online system and have stopped taking manual plans. The local bodies department has fixed a deadline to stop receiving manual plans from January 1. The residents are finding the online application system a bit complex. Besides, in the beginning the system faced glitches as the staff had not received log-in and passwords for checking applications.
Senior town planner (headquarters) SS Bindra said, “We have stopped receiving building plans manually. We are taking help of renowned architects to guide people about the system so that online system gains momentum. Now people will have no option but to apply online.”
A city-based architect and one of the directors of Ludhiana Smart City Limited, Sanjay Goel, said, “MC officials contacted us for uploading online building plans so we have started doing it. To encourage other architects, we will circulate the messages through social media.”
He said it was a very easy option for the residents, as they just need to ask their architect to apply online. The system would become popular in coming days, he added.
