The subordinate judiciary in the country needs to work hard and ensure speedy delivery of justice as pending cases, lack of knowledge of one’s rights and financial incapacity to conduct cases have been impeding justice delivery, said Supreme Court judge S. Abdul Nazeer on Monday.
He was speaking after releasing ‘Wheels of Justice’ authored by former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily at a programme organised by the Mangaluru Bar Association here. Mr. Nazeer said judges in lower courts first have to understand these problems haunting the common man and work accordingly.
He said Mr. Moily has addressed the challenges before the judiciary in detail in his work. Many issues raised in the work need serious debate even as law universities could introduce the work as a text, Mr. Nazeer said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Moily said an All-India Judicial Service should be introduced to enable meritorious persons from all sections of society to become judges. He said that the file recommending names for appointment of judges to Karnataka High Court had come to him soon after becoming the Chief Minister. Realising that there was not a single name from the SC and ST communities, he had requested the Chief Justice to reconsider the list, he said.
