VADODARA: In a first, cops of Vadodara rural police had to use a raft instead of their red light cars on Saturday midnight to unearth a liquor stock in Manjusar village of Savli taluka.
Sleuths of local crime branch received information on Saturday night that the accused bootlegger named Shantilal Solanki had received a consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) couple of days back and has hidden it on an islet in a pond in Manjusar village.
When cops reached there, the islet was located right in the middle of the pond. To reach there cops managed to get a raft made of thermocol from the village.
On getting down at the islet, policemen had to venture through scrubs of acacia to reach the spot where Solanki had hid the liquor stock. Police sources said that Solanki had dig pits in four corners of the islet to hide the stock. Cops could easily identify the spots as the islet was covered with scrubs, while the pits, where liquor stock was hidden were covered with sand.
Police found 192 bottles of IMFL from the pits. Cops said that the liquor stock seized was worth Rs 76,800. Later, police also raided at Solanki’s house in Manjusar village, but he was not present there.
