Wolfgang Porsche, chairman of the Porsche Supervisory Board, will be the first-ever honorary board member of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, the museum said this month.
Porsche, 75, is the grandson of Volkswagen Beetle creator Ferdinand Porsche. He became acquainted with the museum board's founding chairman, Bruce Meyer, two years ago when the Supervisory Board held a meeting at the museum.
"Together they envisioned the 70th anniversary Porsche tribute now known as 'The Porsche Effect,' " Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry Karges said in a statement. "Since then, this relationship has blossomed into a wonderful friendship resulting in the first-ever honorary leadership role on our cherished Board of Directors and the most expansive exhibit in our almost 25-year history."
The Porsche brand celebrated its 70th anniversary this year. "The Porsche Effect" exhibit explores the history and significance of the brand's design, engineering and racing triumphs, the museum says.
In October, Wolfgang Porsche was honored with the Petersen Icon Award at the museum's annual gala, which commemorated the anniversary and celebrated the exhibit.
