Penalty to be paid at e-seva or Meeseva centre

The system of issuing challans in the district is now paperless. Vehicle users in the district caught for traffic violations would now be served e-challan and the penalty amount, ranging from ₹100 to ₹1,000, has to be paid at e-seva or Meeseva centres.

The Karimnagar Commissionerate of Police on Sunday launched the e-challan system for enforcement of traffic rules and Motor Vehicles Act.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner of Police V.B. Kamalasan Reddy said e-challan has been introduced to ensure transparency in the department.

Under the system, offenders would be issued an e-challan and given seven days to clear the fine. If the number of violations per vehicle user crosses three, police would detain the vehicle, which can be released only after payment of a penalty amount. If the violator does not seek the release of vehicle by paying fine, police would serve a legal notice seeking punishment as per law, Mr. Reddy said.

The video footage and photographs of violations recorded through cameras would be preserved in the server and sent in the form of e-challan to the violator. Vehicle users can also check pending e-challans by visiting the website www.echallan.org.

Stating that there would total ban on manual imposition of fines, the top cop said e-challan would be served for drunk driving too.
