JAIPUR: Twenty-three ministers were inducted in the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan on Monday, signifying the assertive role played by his deputy Sachin Pilot, who managed to secure five berths for his loyalists.
Congress sources said the power sharing between Gehlot and Pilot in the cabinet formation was on expected lines. Of the 23 ministers, 13 were given the cabinet rank. The lone non-Congress minister is from ally RLD. The total strength of the council of ministers is now 25, still five short of the maximum 30 which Rajasthan can have. This leaves scope for a cabinet expansion in future.
Among the cabinet ministers from the Gehlot camp are Shanti Dhariwal, B D Kalla, Parsadi Lal Meena, Lal Chand Kataria and Vishvendra Singh while those from the Pilot camp include Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Udai Lal Anjana and Pramod Jain.
While 18 of the 23 ministers are first timers, veterans like C P Joshi and Deepender Singh have been benched. Two of those who were sworn in, Subhash Garg (RLD) and Harish Chaudhary, are debutant MLAs.
