This Weird Retro Riley Contraption Has A Rear-Mounted Cadillac V8

Riley Motors went defunct in 1969, but that doesn’t mean the brand has been forgotten. Case in point is this bizarre looking replica which recently surfaced on eBay.

Designed to resemble a 1951 Riley convertible, the replica is a weird mash up of a Cadillac, a Mercury and possibly even a Mustang. The eBay listing is light on specifics, but notes the car is “built on a Ford platform” and the interior appears to resemble that of a sixth-generation Mercury Cougar.

Despite the Ford-sourced underpinnings, the car is powered by Cadillac Northstar V8 engine which is paired to an automatic transmission. If that wasn’t odd enough, the engine is located out back and sends power to the rear wheels.

While the engine’s position is certainly interestingly, the car will undoubtedly catch plenty of attention for its bizarre looks. It’s not exactly a thing of beauty, but the seller says the replica uses a handful of original Riley parts including the bumpers, grille and fenders. The model also boasts original “running boards” and some tacky looking scoops. Of course, the real highlight is the removable hard top.

Little else is known about the car, but the seller describes it as a beautiful, turn-key convertible that needs nothing besides a new owner. The seller goes on to say the car is real head-turner and a nice conversation piece as people will undoubtedly want to know what it is. The seller even suggests the car more interesting and eye-catching than a Ferrari as “everybody will take pictures” of it.

The seller is asking for $21,950 (£17,275 / €19,256), but potential buyers can also make an offer.
