11 riders complete 600-km cycling brevet

NASHIK: Among the eleven cyclists who completed 600-km brevet on Saturday, two participants were on non-geared tandem bicycle and one on non-geared bicycle. Seven of them became Super Randonneurs.
In total 18 cyclists including one from Mumbai participated in the 600-km Brevet des Randonneurs Mondiaux. The ride started from Mumbai Naka in Nashik to Ghulania in Madhya Pradesh via Indore road (302 km) and then back to Nashik (604 km).
The cut-off time was 40 hours (Saturday 6 am to Sunday 10 pm). Riders had to reach Dhule by 4:08 pm on Saturday, at 2.08 am to Ghulania on Sunday, back to Dhule at 12.08 pm on Sunday and to Nashik by 10 pm. Eleven riders completed the distance by 7 pm-8:40 pm. Some cyclists slept only for 1-4 hours and except for eating or drinking water, cycled 600 kms continuously.
Seven cyclists backed out after 300 to 450 plus kms due to physical or other reasons while 11 of them completed the ride in time along with all the check points. The cyclists had to face three challenging ghats – Chandwad ghat, Laling ghat and Palasner ghat (Bijasan Mata Mandir). They also had to endure the cold climate of North Maharashtra and afternoon heat of Madhya Pradesh.
The specialty of this ride was that two participants — Dinkar Patil and Manik Nikam — completed the challenge on non-geared (single speed) tandem bicycle while Bhimrao Adhav completed it on a non-geared (single speed) bicycle.
Ratan Ankolekar, Dr Rahul Sonawani, Gorakshnath Shinde, Ganesh Mali, Hiren Sanghvi (Mumbai), Ashish Bhattad and Dinkar Patil became Super Randonneur of the calendar year of 2018-19. To be a Super Randonnuer one has to complete 200 km, 300 km, 400 km and 400 km brevet in one year. Others who completed the 600 km brevet on Sunday were Ramdas Sonawane, Sameer Marathe, Manik Nikam and Bhimrao Adhav. The ride was conducted by Audax India Randonnuer through Audax Club Parisien, France.
