Research scholars of Central University of Punjab held protest for hike in fellowship emoluments

BATHINDA: Acting on a national call for hike in emoluments of research fellowship, the research scholars of Central University of Punjab on Thursday held a brief protest for the hike at the university campus at Bathinda. The researchers holding placards demanded to upgrade the existing junior research fellowship(JRF), senior research fellowship(SRF) and post doctoral fellowship(PDF)emoluments to Rs. 45,000, 55,000 and 75,000 per month respectively.
The researchers also demanded from the union ministry of human resources development(MHRD) to increase the contingency grant from present Rs. 20,000 to 50,000 and the revised fellowship to be made effective from April 1, 2018 and to ensure its timely disbursal. The researchers also demanded to direct the Universities to increase non-NET( national eligibility test)pass fellowship to Rs 18,000 per month and inclusion of Ph D research scholars under pay commission. They also demanded to make them eligible to join central government health scheme (CGHS).
The activists of Shaheed Bhagat Singh students organisation(SBSSO) also took part in the protest for hike in fellowship amount.
