Two men have tragically drowned after becoming caught in a treacherous surf on Christmas Eve, while a third boy was taken to hospital.  

The two men, one aged 20 and the other aged 45, drowned while swimming at a Phillip Island beach in Victoria. 

Multiple distress calls were made to emergency services at around 5.30pm on Monday.  

Paramedics performed CPR on the older man when he was pulled from the surf, but they were unable to resuscitate him, the Herald Sun reported. 

The second man was also pulled from the water and pronounced dead at the scene.    

The young boy was able to swim to the shore and was taken to Monash Children’s Hospital by ambulance in a stable condition. 

Police will investigate the incident and prepare a report for the coroner.
