THANE: A Bhiwandi-based businessman, Mohammad Khan, trading in air conditioners (AC) was duped to the tune of Rs 4.24 lakh after a conman, who posed as a dealer, took the delivery of 14 AC units in Kasarwadavli and did not pay the amount. When he failed to pay the amount, Khan filed a police complaint.
Khan, in his complaint to the police alleged that it was on October 29 when a person named Nainesh Panchal called him on his mobile and told him he is a dealer having a shop at Naglabandar.
“The victim was told that he is need of nine AC units worth 2.60 lakh, but initially the victim refused stating that he does not deal over phone orders,” said a cop. The accused then sent him a receipt of the cash deposited at a national bank and sent a photograph of it on a messaging application a couple of days later.
The victim got convinced while the accused pestered him to deliver, added the police officer. Subsequently, the nine units were delivered to the accused, who again asked for another five units worth Rs 1.64 lakh and told him that he will deposit the cash in the bank account, which he failed to do, said the police.
The victim doubted as the accused had not deposited the said amount in the account and gave evasive answers stating that the cash is deposited in another account and even he told that he shall give the cheque etc, added the police officer.
