Posing as the owner of a private company, a man allegedly duped a sales executive of a leading IT company and stole his gold chain after offering him a juice laced with sedatives in Upparpet on Sunday.

Manjunath B.R., in his complaint to the police, said that he got a call from a man identifying himself as Deepak from Erode in Tamil Nadu who was seeking details about the products of his company. Deepak said he would buy the products in bulk and asked for quotations.

Manjunath met Deepak at Majestic. Deepak invited him to a hotel in Gandhi Nagar for discussions. On entering the room, Deepak offered a fruit juice laced with sedatives and then left with Manjunath’s gold chain worth around ₹ 1 lakh.

The cheating came to light when Manjunath woke up three hours later.

The Upparpet police have taken up a case. They are verifying CCTV footage from in and around the area.
