MANGALURU: A few miscreants identified as residents of Deralakatte on Saturday allegedly assaulted two boys from Thrissur, Kerala, who were found to be in the company of a woman belonging to a community that was not their own. Mangaluru city police have arrested a miscreant with a past record in connection with the case.
Sources in the police department said that the woman student, also a native of Thrissur, had wanted to go home for Christmas and had asked the two boys in question to pick her up. When the two boys in question arrived at the girl’s paying guest accommodation, and decided to spend some time there, news spread that they belonged to another religious community, which did not go down well with some residents.
A few miscreants then set upon the two boys, and even proceeded to snatch a mobile phone from one of them. While police have filed a case of robbery and assault, they are refusing to treat this as an incident of moral policing.
Cops have arrested one of the men who were involved in the assault, while they are hunting for the other miscreant involved in the incident. Police said that remaining details about the case could not be disclosed till it was investigated further.
