The grade separator at Mysuru-Hunsur Road and Outer Ring Road, which is also the first flyover in Mysuru city, was formally inaugurated on Sunday.
The 580-metre-long flyover was declared open by Minister for Higher Education G.T. Deve Gowda, who is also in-charge of Mysuru district, in the presence of Pratap Simha, MP, and L. Nagendra, MLA.
The project for construction of the grade separator at the Mysuru-Hunsur road junction with Outer Ring Road was taken up after the intersection saw increase in traffic.
Work on the project, which received its approval under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, began in June 2016. Though the estimated cost of the project was initially ₹1,518.25 lakh, the tender agreement amount was ₹1,983 lakh, according to a press statement issued by Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
As per the approval, the Union government’s share was 80%, the State government’s share 10%, and the balance was to be borne by MUDA, which shall include land acquisition costs, escalation and tender premium, the statement said.
However, as per the revised guidelines of the project, the Centre’s share was reduced to 50% and with the efforts of the MP, it was increased to 60%. Further, the State government agreed to increase its share from 10% to 30%.
As per the revised allocations, the Centre bore ₹910.95 lakh, State government contributed ₹455.47 lakh, while the balance ₹985.58 lakh was paid by MUDA, the statement said. The total expenditure for construction of the project is ₹2,352 lakh.
While the total length of the flyover is 580 metres, the width of the four-lane road is 17.2 metres. There are service roads of 6-metre width on both sides with footpaths of minimum width of 1.5 metres.
Speaking after inaugurating the flyover, Mr. Gowda said more such flyovers were needed for Mysuru city. He said the construction of one more flyover will be taken up at the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway’s junction with Outer Ring Road shortly.
