MUMBAI: In a first for Mumbai, students of Ruia College, Matunga hosted a silent disco as part of their annual inter-collegiate festival, Utsav Aarohan. More than 1,200 students attended the festival on Saturday and danced to the music on headphones.
Pradeep Waghmare, chairperson of Ruia Students' Council, said, "Colleges are silence zones so we did not want to create noise pollution. So we wanted to do something to ensure we do not violate the norms. So we moved the performing events into the auditorium and decided to go mute for the music evening."
The students came up with idea during a brainstorming session. "We wanted to start a trend and do something different. This will create awareness about noise pollution as well," said Omkar Parab, general secretary of the event.
