SOMERSET – Where blowouts, haircuts and brow shaping can make someone pretty on the outside, Divine Images Sanctuary Day Spa also has a focus on where beauty begins: on the inside.

Wellness has become an important service at the salon, where clients can experience things like organic facial treatment, hot stone massage, steam tent therapy, Reiki or relaxation in the salt therapy booth.

“Everybody lives such a stressful life,” said owner Mary Perry. “It really depletes us of our health.”

Perry, who has suffered in the past with Guillan-Barre syndrome – a disorder in which the immune system attacks the nerves -- said she’s no stranger to homeopathic and alternative treatments, and often relies on it over pharmaceuticals.

Her newest find, NewULife Somaderm homeaopathic human growth hormone transdermal gel, helped her Guillan-Barre symptoms and eased her anxiety after a death in the family. She said her experience lead her to become a distributor.

“When we’re born, we have an abundance of HGH,” Perry said.

Human growth hormone, produced by the body’s pituitary gland, fuels growth in children and helps to maintain body tissues and organs throughout life, according to the Mayo Clinic. Starting in middle age, HGH naturally declines. In western medicine, prescription HGH, usually delivered by syringe, is used to treat deficiencies and to help people with certain conditions that cause muscle wasting.

Homeopathic products are generally made from plants and minerals.

In healthy adults, there aren’t really any major studies that show whether homeopathic HGH is safe for everyone or if it can maintain youthful qualities.

But, it is growing in popularity. Homeopathic HGH can be purchased online and in some alternative medicine practices. It does not require a prescription.

For Perry, homeopathic HGH has made a big difference in her life. She said replenishing HGH can make people feel and look younger.

“It knows what your body needs,” Perry said. “It’s a game-changer.”

Perry said HGH helped cure her insomnia and decreased her anxiety levels, and even made her hair, eyelashes and nails grow faster. Plus she lost eight pounds.

“I can smile now,” Perry said. “I have joy in my life.”

Her clients have reported increased energy, stamina, weight loss, muscle gain and increased libido. Perry said it’s also eased menopausal symptoms for some women.

“I liked what I saw,” Perry said. “The first time I took it, I felt such calmness. This is for men and women.”

Perry said she’s been on the gel for five months and may also be starting to see improvement in lines and wrinkles. But, for a woman who is no stranger to facials, she’s giving it a wait-and-see approach.

Perry said she loves being able to offer homeopathic HGH to her clients.

“Everyone is suffering in one way or another with their health,” Perry said.

Perry, who has been in the cosmetology industry for 37 years, said it’s all part of her goal of adding wellness programs at the salon.

Perry said it’s worth it “if I can help in some small way.”

Divine Images uses Aveda and Eminence organic haircare and skincare products, made of herbs and vegetables.

In the new year, Perry plans to add yoga to the schedule and sound healing sessions. She’s also planning to offer wellness events and presentations.
