Gambling gang busted, Rs 13L seized
TNN | Dec 24, 2018, 00:49 ISTCoimbatore: The rural police busted a gambling gang on Saturday at Vilankurishi and seized Rs 13.84 lakh from them.
According to police sources, the Kovilpalayam police got a tip-off about the gambling at Vilankurichi and rushed there. They arrested 31 people, including organizers Muthu, 30, Ganeshamurthy, 38, and Jayabal, 24, and were taken to the police station. Police seized Rs 13.84 lakh from the gamblers. All of them were booked under sections 8, 9 read with 4 (ii) of the Tamil Nadu Gaming (TNG) Act. While the police released 28 people under the station conditional bail, they produced Muthu, Ganeshamurthy and Jayabal before a judicial magistrate on Sunday. However, they were released on bail.
Police sources said with the help of ruling party functionaries, the organizers were arranging gambling at Vilankurichi. The organizers were arrested in October from a house at Vilankurichi and Rs 11 lakh seized from them.
The same organizers were arrested from a house at Periyanaickenpalayam and Rs 8 lakh seized from them.
