Gujarat: Heavy bandobast for Kankaria carnival

AHMEDABAD: Heavy police bandobast has been deployed for the Kankaria Carnival sceduled for December 25 at the Kankariya lake front. Additional police commissioner of Sector-2, Ashok Yadav, said that every year many VIPs from the state and country and also from other countries visit the event.
“As the carnival will be inaugurated by CM Vijay Rupani heavy police bandobast has been deployed at the venue,” Yadav said, adding that along with three DCP-rank officers, three ACPs, 31 PIs, 100 Wireless PSIs, 1,296 ASIs and head constables, and 190 woman head constables and police constables will be present at the venue. “On top of these, 260 SRP jawans and about 200 home guard jawans will also be deployed,” he said. Yadav said heavy bandobast was necessary as lakhs of people came to the carnival and it was easy for anti-social elements to mix in the crowd.
“These miscreants steal vehicles, valuables, snatch chains, purses or mobiles, pick pockets and commit petty offences. We have taken full care to curb criminals and let people enjoy the carnival,” Yadav said.
