PANAJI: As the year-end draws closer, airlines are all set to rake in the money from holidayers flying out after celebrating New Year’s Eve in the country’s favourite party and holiday destination — Goa.
Those flying to destinations like Mumbai, for instance, will have to pay more than four times the regular airfare post New Year’s Day.
A Goa to Mumbai ticket on January 2 is already priced at nearly Rs 11,000, as against the usual fare of around Rs 2,500.
The airfares to fly into Goa in the run up to the New Year’s Eve is not too high as compared to the regular cost. But airfares have soared unusually to fly out from the coastal tourist destination to any major Indian city. A Goa to Bengaluru flight ticket can be purchased for a regular fare of around Rs 2,300 or lower.
However, on January 2, the same ticket is priced at over Rs 8,000.
It is a similar case with Hyderabad, where the cost per person to fly out from Goa after New Year is Rs 9,000, while on regular days the ticket is available for as little as Rs 2,200.
Bus fares are not far behind, with a seat in an air-conditioned volvo bus costing anywhere between Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,500 to destinations like Mumbai and Bengaluru, where the same ticket costs just Rs 800 on a regular day. On January 2, even a ticket for a regular bus is available for as high as Rs 1,800.
