MANGALURU: Two men from Thrissur were assaulted in Deralakatte by some locals, who found them in the company of a girl student of dental sciences belonging to another community.

The incident took place on Saturday. The Mangaluru city police have arrested a history-sheeter in this regard.

According to the police sources, the girl student, hailing from Thrissur, wished to go home on Christmas and hence called two of her friends from her native district to pick her up. The two men arrived and stayed at a PG for a brief period of time.

As the locals learnt that the men belonged to another community, they attacked the duo because of their pre-conceived notions. The attackers also snatched a mobile phone from one of them.

Police have filed a case of robbery with assault in this regard. However, they refused to call it a case of moral policing.

The police are on the lookout for another accused. Further details were not divulged pending investigation.
